Is it ok to pick sloes for sloe gin now?

I always thought it was better to pick sloes after the first frost of autumn, but they are falling off the trees here so must be ripe.

Ok to pick for now?

Pick them now if they're ripe, and pop them in the freezer overnight to simulate a frost.
