My garden is full of little fat brown spiders!

Literally between every bush and shrub, and anything which has a less that one metre distance to anything else now has a web with a fat little brown spider at the centre of it.

I've tried to take pictures but they come out blurry. And I can't stand to look at google images! They are like mini versions of what would be terrifying spiders if they were large size iyswim? I'm on the south coast if that helps, and our garden is next to a small wood.

If anyone has an idea of what they are, the main thing I'd like to know is if they are harmless. I'm fine with live and let live as long as they won't bite me or invade my house! Even though there are at least 20 visible ones in my small garden...

Sounds like common orb spiders. They are absolutely covering my garden too!

Yes that looks about right! Are they going to get scarier bigger, do you know?

I overcame my queasiness long enough to have a bit of a google. It seems these ones might be cross orb weavers, harmless to humans and will disappear by October. Not so bad. I'll just have to be careful of the little critters till then! I've never seen so many spiders all over the place. I suppose the heat has brought them all out.

You will have lots of beautiful orb webs in the autumn, sparking with dew, so just enjoy them! They are lovely spiders.
