How do I successfully remove raspberry canes

Just that really they’ve been growing in 3x1msq wooden raised beds now were sick of them I’ve cut the canes down to stumps my husband has attacked one bed with a spade but how much root he’s missed god knows but is that the best way to go about it? I’d be grateful for any advice

you could have sold them, I reckon. Shame to just destroy.
