Wisteria, any reason that this might be a bad idea?

My mum rolled her eyes when she noticed we had planted a wisteria at the front of the house, she didn't say why. Are they problematic?

Mine is a bit of a (beautiful) thug!! Grows like topsy and needs specific pruning (up a ladder) twice a year in order to keep it under control and encourage beautiful flowers. More info here: www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=242

I love mine though...even if it is currently trying to grow into the windows and under the roof tiles!
