What to grow up the front of my house?

We've got space for a large container at one side of the front of our house and I'd like to have a climbing plant. The pot and base of the plant will be in the shade of our hedge but rest of the plant in full sun. East facing house.

I like wisteria but think it's a bit OTT for our small terrace house!

Maybe roses? Any other ideas or things I should consider?
Thanks

Wisteria is gorgeous, why not? Or climbing hydrangea, rose...?

My grandmother has had honeysuckle climbing up the side of the house outside "my" bedroom for as long as I can remember Smile

I love wisteria though

Sweet peas? They are pretty...

Akebia vine? They're spring flowering though, not summer. Your spot sounds perfect I think for a clematis? Millions of varieties to choose from, some evergreen. Always a fan of honeysuckle though. Or how about jasmine?

Pop up a trellis and have climbing Jasmine, clematis or honeysuckle- be aware of certain plants sucking the moisture out of the cement in walls though as it's a nightmare to fix.

Thanks everyone!

Honeysuckle would be nice, smells lovely too!

I've always thought of wisteria as having big trunk like stems that would be a bit big but perhaps those were older established plants

Off to google akebia...

I love Honeysuckle and you can get so many different varieties, including one's loved by pollinators and butterflies.

Have a look at Dwarf Wisteria, Amethyst Falls, it doesn't get as out of control as the standard Wisteria.

I have two wisteria on each end of the house -they are gorgeous

If you do decide to go for a Rose then I can highly recommend either David Austin's A Shropshire Lad (beautiful abundant blooms), or Gertrude Jekyll (beautiful too, and smells amazing).

We have a rose called Designer sunset, it flowers and flowers and flowers from March/ April until October. It can have 50 or so buds on at any one time!

I’ve got a star jasmine (not a real jasmine) that is doing spectacularly well in a pot, contrary to all the book advice saying that climbers don’t thrive in them. Has climbed about 12ft wrapping itself around (and camouflaging a rather ugly down pipe.

I have pyracantha- it's lovely -blossom now and berries throughout the winter. It's also evergreen.

Watching with interest. I have 2 trellis's that need a climbing jasmine/honeysuckle/similar.
