About to admit defeat with this plant ID...

At first I thought it was valerian, but now it is flowering it clearly isn't. Then someone suggested trifolium repens ladino, but I'm not convinced. Leaves aren't anything like the right shape or pattern. Flowers aren't quite right either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Could it be Berseem Clover?

I don't think so - it's a perennial, and although similar it doesn't look identical to berseem clover. The leaves are almost furry - they have a downy appearance.

Oh oh oh - I think it is trifolium trichocephalum, or hen eggs clover.

Thank you both! It's been bugging me for ages. Now DH will stop asking if it's something he needs to kill...
