What to do with an expanse of slate chippings

Our front garden has been cleared and is being covered with a plum slate clippings and will be just a sea of stone. I have big bushes around it and it is north facing. I want to plant in it but don't know where to start. It is 3m x 4m
Can't post photo as it won't be laid until Saturday
Has anyone got similar who can share photos and give me inspiration?
