We have a once lovely now just overgrown wild/rustic raised flower bed but I fear weeds have overtaken & have no idea how to pare it back a bit. It's meant to be busy but just looks a mess especially out of flowering season. Any suggestions?

Looks like you have lots of lovely hellebores (left side, middle) - keep them in for winter beauty but pull out the lilac from the roots (bottom left). It doesn’t belong on a bed it is a beautiful thug. Possibly you could plant it elsewhere? Above the lilac seems to be aquilegia - you will get lovely flowers.
Send us some close ups for more detail.

The purple flower looks like crainsbill geranium and in the foreground, some Vinca. If you want to suppress the weed growth, plant some more crainsbill, that are different types, shades and flower further along in the season.

Photo of my similar country style bed which is under a Larch and spends a fair amount of time in shade. I have several Crainsbill planted, a Spirea Goldflame, some euphorbia, Lilly of the valley and spring bulbs. The rest is self sown.

That is very pretty JT. Cranesbill is my 'go to' for spaces everywhere, it is so reliable, I love it.
