Hoping that the collective knowledge of mumsnet can help identify this tree growing in my garden;

Here’s a picture of the leaves and buds. Thanks in advance.

A type of rhododendron, from the dark waxy curved leaves? Send us a picture of the bush.

If the flowers are blue when they open it could be ceanothus - Californian lilac.

Thanks both, I should have taken a picture of the whole tree- will do tomorrow. The tree itself is probably about 15ft tall, with the canopy equally as wide.

The buds have a pinky tinge to them, not sure if they’ll actually be flowers- hard to tell!

Most likely not rhododendron them 🙂

Paddybare · 29/04/2018 21:53

No, not a rhododendron and the internet is being most unhelpful!

I'm going for Ceanothus.

Aghhhh sorry super slow WiFi so didn't spot that Jill had it.

Thanks all, I think you have it - ceanothus! Looking forward to it blooming now.
