Pruning cotinus & cornus

Realise I've left it a bit late to prune both of these - but wondering if I'll get away with it given how cold it's been.

I was planning on giving the Cotinus a v hard prune (even coppicing) as it's getting large - but obviously don't want to kill the plant. Any thoughts welcome. Perhaps I should do something less drastic this year and get out earlier next year?

I'll go ahead with the Cornus as it seems indestructible!

Enjoy your gardens, lovely to have some sun at last!

Cotinus can take quite hard pruning and come back.
In fact it's an approach used to encourage larger leaves.
