What can I use to fill the bottom of a HUGE tub

Am going to plant some veggies with dc this afternoon in some old pots & tubs. One of them is a huge plastic tub (it was a toybox)
It would cost a fortune to fill with compost, what could I use to fill it halfway with before putting compost in?

gravel>?

or bricks

Haven't got any gravel, was hoping to use something I already have rather than having to out to buy something.
Anyone else?

You can use polystyrene from around toys or electrical stuff if you have any just break it up into pieces.

Are you able to use some soil from the garden and mix it with the compost to bulk it out so you can fill the tub right up?

MMooMar's suggestion of polystyrene is a good one, because although it takes up loads of space, it isn't too heavey, so gives you a fighting chance of being able to move the tub once it's all filled up.

was about to suggest polystyrene too - packing chips are quite good but the chunks from round computers etc v good too

maybe ask in Currys or somehwere?

otehrwise creating a false bttom with (eg) a plastic washing up bowl upside down isn;t such a silly idea.

The polystyrene I think would work well,going to look in the loft to see if we have any. If not, am going to try the washing up bowl. Thanks for the ideas everyone
