Hose connector for threaded metal garden tap - nothing fits !

This is driving me crazy .

My Hozelock one was pretty good ,certainly functional .But the cold weather has done for it - I did wrap the whole thing up but there must have been some water in the plastic and it's split .

So while I'm grateful for the lesson learned ,I can't find a replacement .
The replacement Hozelock for some reason doesn't fit at all - too large without the insert for 3/4"
and too small with the insert for 1/2" .

After much searching I found a 5/8th fitting on line ,but it's too small .

It's really not an option to replace the tap but I do desperately need the hose as our garden is some distance from the house .

Can anyone help !

Oh god don't say this. My elderly Hozelock one is bound to fail at some point and it's never crossed my mind to worry about the replacement.Shock

Have you tried local hardware shops? This happened to us a couple of winters ago. Tried all the national chains & online but none fitted. Went to the independent in the village & he had all sizes imaginable!

Interesting Bernard ,not much confidence in our local hardware shops but will certainly ask .

But stand by for a PM begging you to make another trip to your village shop Smile

perking don't worry too much about a replacement connector .

I've meticously compared my old and new and measured and re measured and honestly I can't see how they differ .The original wasn't perfect ,I can only assume that there is some slight difference in the thread that has tipped it over into failure .

Can you wrap some sort of tape around the tap and then screw on the larger nozzle size?
I'm sure I've seen some sort of sealant tape stuff for doing this. It peels/ wraps off again. It was white.

I realise this may not be the most useful post you get.....

How odd. And odder that Bernard had the same problem. It does sound like incompatible gauges but... what?

Baroness - that is helpful and I do have a vague idea of what you mean .I think I may even have some .

I think a major factor is the tap ,it seems to have v little thread ,not a nice deep band to screw on to ,just a few measly mm.

The tape is called p.f.t.e. tape. The fitting should be a standard bsp tap connection. Take your old one to b & q and see what they have. It's often cheaper to buy a set from pound shop type places than the specific one from big dig places.
