How to get rid of this mini forest? (Pic)

I have just moved into my new house which has been empty for about two years and the garden was left to go wild.

The back of the garden is about 10ft deep with saplings...most too big to dig up.

What’s going to be the best way to clear them? Cut down to ground level and put scrub killer on the stumps? Try to stump grind the larger ones?

Just chainsaw them all and keep doing that when they start to grow back?

Help!!!

When we moved in we had something similar, but Leyllandii. We just cut them down to stumps. It depends on what you want to do with the land afterwards.

I'd choose a few to keep in place (straight stems, well spaced) and then cut the remainder down with a handsaw or chainsaw as close to the ground as possible and yes, use stump killer. Instead of trying to clear it completely I'd try and make it a very open area of woodland and underplant the trees you leave with snowdrops, bluebells, anemone, primroses, muscari, tete a tete daffodils etc - I would love an area like that in my garden 😍 You can also put up bird feeders and boxes and try and encourage lots of wildlife.
