Why don't we have any luck with sunflowers?

They get to a certain height but before they flower they disappear without trace.

Being eaten I expect- slug traps?

Gulp. I don't like hurting things, even slugs. I suppose I could surround them with copper wire.

We do the cider in a tub thing- at least they die happy.

ohter solution- plant them in pots that slugs can't get up (vaseline the outside). Or surround them in really sharp chippings, yhough they can burrow under.
