Wood pigeons in my ivy

We have wood pigeons nesting in a very over grown ivy along our back wall. I really need to cut it back but obviously don't want to disturb the nest or any young. Any ideas when I can cut it safely?

Leave it for now. The flowers which you will destroy if you trim now are a really important food source in autumn for bees and the berries for lots of birds and beasts through winter.

Hold off until March before they start nesting. Maybe do it with hand shears to make it less traumatic.

Wood pigeons are one of those species that can nest all year round. But mostly you will likely say goodbye to this pair within a month or so - depending on wether to have eggs or chicks already it could be longer - I doubt you will be unlucky enough to get a new pair before the spring Smile

Thanks, seems I'll just have to keep an eye on them so. I've managed to miss the right time the last two years though, so I really need to cut it soon!
