We moved a few months ago from a first-floor flat to a house with a lovely little garden.

Now it's spring I need to get my head round this gardening business!

Can you recommend any good gardening books or websites for information, advice and inspiration?

TIA

I love the Dr. Hessayon range of gardening books. They include: The new lawn expert, trees and shrubs, houseplant, flowering shrubs, garden DIY etc. Written in a simple way and easy to refer to. I've got loads of gardening books but I like them the best. You can get them in any bookshop or garden centre.

Have a look for a book which is broken down into months, listing what sort of thing you should be doing in the garden in which month.

for starters Alan Titchmarsh how to be a gardener; and Gardener's World magazine. Grow some veg - courgettes are incredibly easy and there is nothing to beat the smug satisfaction of eating veg you have grown yourself.

oops sorry I forgot to come back to this thread - thanks everyone for your recommendations.

I think I've seen those Hessayon books in the garden centre I will have a look next time I'm there.

Thanks for the tip about courgettes, I'm definitely going to try growing a few things in growbags on the patio, it gets full sun all afternoon. Ooh and lots of herbs too. I'm actually very excited about all this - I just wish it would hurry up and stop blizzarding so I can get out in the garden again!
