I A my creating a new border and wanted to add some height to the planting. Is there a flowering plant I can grow up an obelisk to give height? Would a climbing rose work?

A climbing rose such as Madame Alfred Carriere would work, otherwise if you're after something that will grow quickly and flower this year you could grow some sweet peas up it.

I have two obelisks with roses up them. One's Gertrude Jekyll and the other is Blush Noisette.

Yes, roses work well. Also Clematis grows really fast and loves to climb up anything.

Have a climbing rose (not a rambler) with a small flowered viticella type clematis growing through it. The clematis can be cut right down each spring so won't overwhelm the rose.

If you want something that grows up quickly, then a Banksii Rose is an amazingly fast grower. I have Banksii Lutea, which has the advantage of being thornless, somwill be easy to tie into the obolisk.

I have sweetpeas growing up obelisks as I type.

Too late to sow your own but you could get plugs at the garden centre.

Lovely scents and colours and great for posies
