Just got up on this beautiful sunny morning, children at school, and i have 2 bags of compost and several pots that I would like to fill with easy maintenance flowers/plants/veg. I have no idea what to plant. Is now the right time to plant, or is it still too cold? Please help.

Assumpta, there are loads of things you can be planting now, but it might be too cold - depends where you live? I'm a bit wary of putting anything other than spinach/onions outside right now, but I live up north and last year lost some stuff to a pesky late frost.

You could start some sweet peas or herbs off on a sunny window sill first then put them out a bit later.

There are loads of threads on here listing good things for novices to grow in planters. Have fun.

Too cold for putting summer plants in just now but you could put some primulas & primroses in a container just now or get some bulbs that are in flower.
