Anyone made a outdoor/garden mosaic?

Not sure of here or the arts and crafts topic would be best, but here we go anyway!
I want to cover and ugly bit of concrete that surrounds a plinth where an old porch used to sit and I've had the idea of doing it with a stone mosaic. Has anyone done this or similar in their own garden and can give me some tips please? I've never done it before and have an idea it would look great but I don't want to cock it up!

I've never done this! I suspect you would need to level the base with some kind of thick layer of self-levelling compound for it to work. I guess you'd probably need to ensure all materials were frost-proof too, otherwise terrible things can happen to any kind of tiling! But I really am talking off the top of my head here!
