The Landscapers are here, it is better than the arrival of Santa

Back in late summer, I posted asking for advice about changing my garden into low maintenance. The reason is my deteriorating health and physical ability. Well the advice and support I got was wonderful, particularly from those who recognised the emotional difficulty of destroying a garden I cared for for 40 years and having dispose of lots of plants.

I spent weeks drawing plans, making plant lists. Anyone would have thought I was developing the whole of Kew Gardens rather than by 26feet by 14 feet plot. The landscaper introduced me to a designer who I liked immediately. She produced 2 designs one of which was exactly what I had sketched out, but just improved.

So now they are here and I am so happy, I have let go of the angst and am now happily antipating the new garden. Thank you again for all the hand (spade) holding.

Loving these photos & updates! We need more of these threads!

I might start one when I do mine, had a beautiful garden but it's been destroyed during an extension build!

Your garden is beautiful, meant to say that!

TeamRick I hope you get as much happiness out of recreating your garden as I did. The garden has been my Sanctury and the last two years, when I was unale to care for it, made me really depressed.

When I got up,this morning, the sun was shining and I could just see the top of the Amelanchiers, burning red through the bedroom window. Such an uplifting sight. Please do post photos.

I’m at the planning stage - thank you so much for this thread with the updates.
I’m not known for patience so it’s really good to see the 3/6 month updates as the beds have filled in and look beautiful.
I’m off to look for more before and afters now to reassure me we’re doing the right thing - it’s a lot of money!

The garden has held up really well and has 'filled the brief' as they say on the gardening programmes. Virtually no maintenance, just enough for me to potter.

As I wanted to keep the seed heads through winter, I did not cut back after flowering. Surprisingly, lots of things, like Astrantia, Achiellia and circium have flowered again this Autumn. I also have low growing chrysanthemums just flowering. I am thinking of leaving them in to see if they survive the winter.

My Acers are still in full leaf and show no sign of dropping just yet. I made a late summer addition of Virgina. creeper on the back garage wall and that has been stunning.

Favourite bit at the minute is the Acer Sanguisorba Kaku, which is surrounded by pheasant grass and Sorbus Midwinter fire. Hoping that will glow through the winter.

Early Winter and still holding on to its leaves and colour. It has been so mild here, so hopefully will cling on a bit longer

@grannygarden how does your garden look now? I somehow stumbled across this ancient thread when looking for patio garden inspiration and I certainly found that in your garden! Thanks for sharing
