When will dahlia tubers be on sale?

I need to buy a LOT.
I foolishly thought they would be on sale now - all the websites are showIng them as sold out.

Have I missed the window this year?
Or will they appear in the next month or so?
Or do I need to wait until spring?

I've only ever worked with dahlias that already existed in the garden, so I thought they would be coming up soon...

have you considered growing some from seed? They are surprisingly easy and its a much cheaper way of getting loads

They are normally sold in the late spring. You don't want to plant them until then anyway - they hate frost and wet. If you got a load now, you'd only have to wait until then anyway.

Thanks shove.
Previously I've lifted and stored tubers in compost in the shed until spring, so I was expecting to be able to buy some in the Autumn to bring on.

For once it seems that I'm ahead of the sellers!
I will rest on my laurels until spring. I'm not going to chance from seed as I need a really good show by September and I can't take any chances.

The thing is, you won't be 'ahead' by buying them now - because they'll be dormant over the winter. When it comes to the right time to plant them, they will be in the shops. So the only thing you're losing out on by waiting is the risk of them going mouldy or getting eaten Smile

Great news. I've got some time to plan the display now. The bride must not be disappointed Smile
