I'm replanting a border and would like to plant a hibiscus, but I'm not sure what to plant with it. Has anyone got any suggestions ?

I'd suggest an evergreen that picks up some of the colour and gives you year-round interest, and maybe something that flowers at a similar time - what is your colour scheme, and I will rack my brains for more specific suggestions!

Some Euphorbias or Sedums could work well.

I'm thinking of a blue colour scheme, although I'm not too sure how easy it will be to get different shades of blue that look good together, so I may use some purples, pinks and white as well.

I would plant geranium Johnsons Blue, Ajuga and gentian. They all make really good blues. Maybe some heuchera lime green, I think it is called key lime pie. Then white low growing plants.

What about a purpley red that picks up that gorgeous inner centre of the flower? I've seen sanguisorba officianalis used a lot in designer gardens lately, and it does have a lovely deep red to it that could work? Chocolate cosmus or a dark red scabious like 'Derry's black' or even 'Chile black' could be lovely too.

What about pairing it with something silvery as well, as that could really bring out the slightly ethereal quality of those blue flowers - maybe artemesia for foliage? Or eleagnus 'quicksilver' if you have the space?

Thanks for all the suggestions - hopefully I will be visiting the garden centre tomorrow.

What's your favourite euphemism - the usual MN ones excluded?

Bathroom Stationery is one of mine.
