Do they need a lot of sun? They don't seem to be growing in the shady spot they're in now.

I'm no expert but it is not more dependent on the type of soil they are planted in?

And the variety! Some are better in shade, some in sun. Some are much loved by chomping slugs too Angry

I've got several varieties - a couple are slow to come on this time of year. They don't mind the shade - thirsty buggers tho!

Thanks, that's a relief as we'd need to swap the rose and the hydrangeas around and there are some bastard great tree roots in the way stupid bastard Victorians planted a tree in our tiny garden.

We have some climbing hydrangeas in the shade and I've planted an annabelle in the sun but that is being attacked by slugs annoyingly!
