Ladies (and gents) I need your help!

Having quoted me one price to get a 17 sq ft patio laid with mint fossil indian sandstone of various sizes of slab, my landscaper wants to charge me £400 extra to get the same stone project pack in one large uniform slab size - even though project packs online seem to offer both sizing options for similar price.

Am I being taken for a ride? I have baby brain and can't think straight. I did ask why he said it was better quality stone and a preferred supplier yadayada. Advice from customers and paving experts welcome!

No supplier is better if it means a hefty price increase that you didn't get quoted for!

Tell him no. Be prepared to find another landscaper!

My advice is to get quotes from three different landscapers

Depends where he is getting it from. Mixed size tends to come on one crate around 15 square metres per crate and is cheaper to import than same size. Same size you may need more crates so your haulage will be up. Might be better to source it yourself to be honest as he will definitely be marking up. No need for your landscaper to buy and source it for you.

Now geometry was never my strong suit, so I might be talking complete rubbish here. But could it be that, with a larger shaped slab, you'll need more packs because of the way that the slabs will fit?

I would ask him directly to explain why the £400 extra! Just in the sense of 'Gosh, that's more of a markup than I thought for that size of slab. Why is it so much more?'
