hi all,

may be in the wrong Topic, but a friend has a tree in her garden which is almost certainly a damson tree. Anyone know much about them and what to do with the fruit?

Thanks!

Delicious! I have two ancient damson trees in my garden and they always produce lots of fruit. I make damson jelly, it has a lovely sharp taste after the sweetness. Too many stones for jam or fruit crumble but I also make damson gin - like sloe gin but nicer. Hic.

My mum has one and treats the fruit like plums, pretty much as Aircooled said.

Tinker, tailor, solider, sailor, rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief. I got a lot thieves and beggar men when eating damson crumble as a child.

My mother used to make damson jam every year. Lovely.

I bet it makes damned good slivovice, too.
