Over run with weeds and patches of grass, pet friendly removal?

We live in a lovely farm cottage with a front/side and back garden, the driveway/side and back garden are horrid stones, utterly hate them but nothing I can do at the moment. There are so many weeds and patches of grass growing through them that I want to get up, need a pet safe way of removing them and preventing them returning. Doesn't help when the fields get fertilised so does our garden and drive way!

the animal friendliest is elbow grease...
get digging.

depending on how fire safe the area is, you can also use a flame weeder like this

We dug up loads last year but they are back, not sure if its because we are surrounded by fields cut for haylage then grazed, lots of weeds along the fence line to our garden.

weeds are self seeding thugs so keeping at it is the only way.
