Can I plant on top of bulbs?

As per title, I've got several pots which are filled with bulbs now dying back (daffs, crocus & tulips). Could I simply put another layer of compost on top and add some pansies/violas etc now? Will the bulbs still be able to reappear next spring?

If not, what else can I do with these pots now (or do I need to dig up the bulbs and start again - nb I am a lazy gardener!)?

You can, but pansies and violas are more for autumn planting than for planting now, and the bulbs would appreciate drying out a bit in summer which whatever you plant on top wouldn't really appreciate, so if you can face it it would really be better to dig them out.
