Can I do something creative in my garden with a load of spare tiles?

Hi,

We moved into a new house a couple of months ago and the owners have left a load of old spare tiles stacked up next to the garage.

Can I use them for something? It seems a shame to just chuck them away...

I would break them into small pieces and set them in cement to make a mosaic floor. Am saving bits of broken crockery to do just that myself one day...

Could you post a pic?

sebsmummy1 · 14/05/2015 09:02

Freecycle?

dreamingoffields · 14/05/2015 21:49

How about piling them up with gaps here and there and make a bug hotel? Google images...

This is totally unhelpful but my first thought was to make a hut or hideaway for children to play in. Totally impractical!

Thanks for the ideas! I will definitely be saving them for a future project! Here are a couple of pics if anyone has some other sudden inspiration...

I second the idea of a bug hotel. Make a construction, including straw, paper and wood. You will have hours of fun watching the bugs.

Thanks, yes - I think the bug hotel is the way forwards! They previous owners also left an enormous pile of kindling and some PVC piping which I can also incorporate.

Dd's half-term project is also to make something along the theme of a dream garden so I can kill two birds with one stone Grin

Please post pic when it is done. Last year my OH found a cube of wood about 6 inches. He drilled some holes in if and mounted it on a stick in the garden.

Before too long some insects were tearing off bit of leaf and stuffing them in the holes. Unfortunately we missed the hatching.

I love it.

I'm thinking of making one for our garden - do they need to be near some plants? The most convenient spot for us is against the wall in our yard, but that's all wall and gravel and the other side of the house from the garden. How far will the bees and bugs travel from plants to their home?

Hallyracket · 27/05/2015 22:56

Wonderful, I love it.

That looks fantastic.

So cute! Great work!
