Ties to hold a climber rose to a trellis

I am looking for some ties to attach a climber rose to a trellis. I saw some on a stall at one of the RHS shows but wasn't paying attention because I hadn't planted any climbers.

I know you're meant to put wire up for roses but as they are quite small climbers (up to about 3 metres), I'm hoping the trellis will do as it was already there.

Hi CruCru

Just use jute string. It looks natural, it won't harm the stems and you have to redo as it rots, but you will need to prune out the stems and re-tie them anyway. IMO other ties are just there to sell you expensive stuff. Good luck with the roses.

I picked up a tip for using twine and always do this now: use a figure of eight so the plant isn't rubbing against whatever you're tying it to but is cushioned by the twine. So put the twine round the trellis, cross the ends over then tie the twine in front of the branch you're securing.
