Garden party in May....I need loveliness

Hi,

I am planning a garden party in the middle of May for a big birthday and would like some advice on what to plant and when I. A number of troughs and pots that I have. The rest of the garden quite established I just need pretty. I also have a climbing rose over a pagoda that hasn't been pruned if I do I now will I be cutting off this years flowers?

Are you thinking bedding plants? Maybe viola or pansies. I would go to a garden centre a couple of weeks before, and see what catches your eye. White or light purple flowers are beautiful just before dusk. Hope the weather is good for you.

I think you're just in time to prune the rose, they're meant to be done right at the end of winter I think.
