Allotment/patch grow your own people..... Shall we share tips we've gleaned?

Dp and I have had our allotment for coming up 3 years now. We're still learning but it's a lot tidier than when we first got it.

I know a lot of Mumsnetters grow their own and wondered if we could share tips. Maybe highlight the main word so it's easier to find?

One thing dp did last year that was very successful was the way he planted leeks. He'd heard a tip that you make a hole much larger than the thin leek plant. Pop the leek in and water it but don't put any soil in. You'd think this wouldn't work but they ended up much better than before.

Any more tips would be appreciated.

Dp's just put our tap in. He had to buy a pick and dig a trench, lay pipework and everything! I was so proud Grin We need to rebuild the shed we inherited. it's more of a shell tbh. Plus our fence needs replacing. All money but we do enjoy it.

It was just a genuine invitation to join. If you prefer your own thread I certainly wouldn't want to stop you.

Thanks. I find some threads get so big it's hard to find key points, hence the thought highlighting words may help?
