What's looking good in your garden now?

I need some late-summer/early autumn recommendations. Most flowering shrubs in mine are going over, and only a dying hollyhock or two and one rose bush are still providing interest. Oh and the Japanese anemones, but they are taking over in a sea of pale pink! What's looking really good in your garden now that you would recommend?

My hydrangeas look lovely (if a little nibbled).

I have two perennial fuchsia bushes which look great too.

A garden up our street has beautiful gladioli in their front garden.

Hydrangeas, fuschias, cyclamen, valerian, roses, pansies, dahlias, begonias, impatiens, sweet peas, lysimachia, cosmos, ceratostigma, geranium johnson's blue, geranium phaeum album, echinacea, nicotiniana lime green, hibiscus, alchimella mollis

heleniums and asters are 'in' this season along with achilleas, grasses (stipa, molinia) and crocosmia. They are however best for sunny borders.

I have masses of crocosmia and its been a good year. I also have lots of passion flowers crawling over things that are looking good at present.

Hmmm...what am I doing wrong? My crocosmia, sweet peas, cyclamen, geranium Johnson's Blue and alchemilla are all over already. I do have a few passion flowers left but they are pretty much gone now too.

Fuschia is a good idea! I'm off to google helenium...

Ohhhhh, heleniums! I tried to grow these but the snails stripped them bare within a week. It's a shame, as they're very nice.

I'm always very thankful for my asters at this time of year.

I'm in the North West with plenty in flower. Are you South so things have bloomed sooner?

My back garden looks like crap with only a few odd roses blooming and some pretty pink phlox, but in the front I've got potentilla Gibsons Scarlet that's been in bloomfor ages and still going strong, plus some purple and yellow osteospermum. Verbena floating over the top still looks okay, a bit moth eaten maybe!

But yours are maybe done much sooner than ours up here!

We mostly plant for year-round leaves and shape rather than flowers anyway, so rhododendrons, heathers etc, plus some new phormiums all looking nice!

Yes, I'm in the South East, so I'm probably a couple of weeks ahead I suppose.

Potentilla is a good idea. Year round leaf shape/colour is good too - can't do rhododendrons with our soil, but other ideas welcome!
