Please dont laugh butis there a right way up to plant a bulb ?

Am just about to put out lots of snowdrops, daffs and bluebell bulbs-which way up to they go

pointy bit at the top, flatter bit at the bottom

got a text from my bro, saying he'd poisoned himself and was in hosp. he'd mistaken a daffodil bulb for an onion. he said not to worry tho, the doctor said he'd be out by the spring.

I've gone for 2 tone grape hyacinths and tulips this time.

Will bulbs grow whatever why you plant them? Aren't they negetively geotrophic?

tulips sound nice as well are they eays to grow? could you do a mix in one pot?

Ok got my bulbs in and dh now cut slabs around composter ! Have had it looking like some sort of darlek (?sp ) in corner of garden for over a year.
Do we need to actually dig it into the ground or what ?At the mo you can just pick it up and move it around.
Oh and can i start it off with all my cuttings from today or is it best to stick with fruit and veg peelings and a bit of grass ?

IME, as a crappy but enthusiastic gardener bulbs are pretty tough little things. The packet should tell you the depth at which your bulbs need to be planted. I just dig the hole with my little bulb planter tool, pop the bulb in at the right depth and then put the soil 'plug' back in on top of it. They seem to come up without too much trouble.

FWIW Mooshy, I always thought that it didn;t really matter which way up you planted your bulbs as the shoots automatically make their way up to the surface.

AFAIK you don't have to dig your composter into the ground

Its best to keep it loose so you can move it! We have 2 darleks i fill one completely in one go so it starts composting quickly then leave it 2 or 3 weeks then mix it up a bit with a fork and leave it until its compost! Meanwhile I start on the other bin. When you want the compost just lift the darlek off and put it somewhere else ie where there is a space in your garden.

Oh and don't worry about rushing to plant bulbs anytime up until november is fine its a bit too early for Tulips still.
