What is your favourite indoor plant?

I have recently managed to kill a poinsettia that I've had for a couple of years and need a replacement. I know nothing about plants, but I'd like something neat that only needs watering once a week, any suggestions?

I've been trying to grow a poinsettia outdoors in Melbourne, but it's sulking.

Spider plants are very forgiving: I had pots and pots of them in my classroom in the UK and brought home for the summer holidays.

I don't actually like the poinsettia very much but it's refused to die for years! I have a spider plant already (I think that's what it is), very easy to look after

I threw my spider plants away because they kept getting brown at the tips and just looked...sad. I must be really rubbish with plants

My money plant looks fantastic though - it's really shiny and a friend complimented it just this week.

I have 3 Dracaena Marinata (Dragon Tree) that I've managed to keep going for 15 years or so despite major neglect.
I have had orchids for 2 years now and as long as they get lots of light (mine are in the conservatory & a big bay window) they only need watering once a week. When they stop flowering they look like leaves with twigs for 6months before they produce flowers again - I have 2 sets together that flower alternately.

Ooh a money plant, that's a good idea, are you supposed to rub it or talk to it?

Will look up the dragon tree, the orchids do look pretty odd when they're not in flower don't they.

Pink quill (tillandsia cyanea). Really pretty, the quill lasts for months and flowers come off it every few days for months too.

More likely to die of overwatering or under.

I have a money plant which has survived several years which must make it indestructible! It also drops babies off it so you have a steady supply of them for friends

I've got an umbrella plant (schefflera) in my bedroom, had it 24 years, have repotted it a couple of times, I only water it once a month at the most and it's quite happy. It's in a shady corner, wouldn't tolerate full sun.

My favourite has to be the agave, aloe vera, which not only survives neglect but produces neat little plantlets which are always popular as such a good burn remedy and for skin problems generally.

I love my Phalaenopsis orchids. If you find the right position for them they just keep flowering over and over (mine are rarely without flowers for more than a month or two), the flowers are gorgeous and they don't seem to need too much fussing over.

Oh and cyclamens are lovely, again if you get the right place for them (might have to move them to different places in Summer/Winter). They might want watering more than once a week in warm weather though, but if you put them in a saucer and fill up the saucer they would probably be fine. (I have nearly killed mine a few times but they generally bounce back).

DD has a begonia on her south facing window sill that's several years old. However it probably gets watered more than on a week.

It's very confused about seasons and flowers in winter when the radiators on as well as in summer.
