My garden is quite shady and east facing, v mossy lawn in fact it's almost all moss.

I'm trying to fix the edges which are thin stony soil but being scotland, well irrigated.

A couple of months ago I put down 4 in 1 by evergreen. It repaired holes in the lawn by making them ultra lush with moss.

I thoroughly weeded the edges, sifted the soil to remove stones, scarified it. And today after quite a bit of rain I put down grass seed.

Is thus enough or do I need topsoil?

Ultimately I want to plant some widlflowers really for my son to learn as he loves the outdoors, but as he's only four, needs a quick in result before he gets bored!

Do you have enough sun to plant sunflowers in any of your borders. IME experience children love them because they grow so big and are impressive .
Otherwise I would recommend herbs. DS loved growing things we could use for cooking - and he liked the smell.
