Very patchy grass

Hi all, i am rubbish in the garden but need to learn as just moved into a new house with a huge garden.

First thing i want to do is sort out the grass. Last owners had dogs and they have churned the grass up.

From a distance it looks ok but as you get closer you can see its full of holes and no grass is growing in these holes. Need to make it flat again as nearly broke my ankle today.

So it it just a case of filling in holes with topsoil and hoping grass grows?

I did say i know nothing !

We have a similar issue. You can fill with top soil and add grass seed, or you can get a product called Patch Magic which we found to be good, but it is expensive and if your garden is big, may not be economical. I am thinking of getting Green Thumb around to help us sort ours, because even with fixing the patches, the grass around the patches has gone a bit crazy so it just looks a bit of a mess. And is very lumpy!

Thanks will have a look at that though lumpy is what i really want solved.

Quite tempted to get the whole lot returfed but having just bought the house not really got the money!
