Original thread

I've been adding cut up garden waste, shredded paper & grass cuttings but its not smelling great & when I went to turn it over yesterday it's all matted together & a bit clumpy Sad.

Am I doing it right?

I'm far from an expert and leave DH to the compost heap to be honest. But compost heaps are stinky and everything does go clumpy at first. DH here and says is it slimy? If so add more brown stuff ie. Dried leaves. He says keep turning it every so often. It takes ours a good 6 months plus depending on how often DH remembers it is there. The first time it took well over a year.

Oh right it sounds salvageable then!

My dh was against the composter so I really want it to work. I've got browns I can put on.

Thank you.

Well hopefully he'll have to eat his words! I spent a happy hour or so mulching roses with our compost yesterday , with the wait. Only add browns if it is slimy apparently.
