Black/grey dry fungus on lawn

Can anyone identify this? I'm having issues getting rid of it and can't fathom out what it is via google.

It's patchy and spreading!

Hi there - have a look on the RHS website at Algae and Lichens in lawns. I just googled lawn fungus, went to images and one that looked like your picture was on the RHS website. I think it's a lichen.

Is your lawn waterlogged, very shaded, etc? The main advice is to aerate it and put sharp sand on to improve drainage.
