Raspberries

I bought some raspberry canes recently, there were 5 if them in a pot all clumped together. I tried separating them but the roots are all entangled so I've planted them as the one clump. Is that right or should I have persevered in separating them?

I'd have separated them, with scissors if necessary. They're tough blighters.

Yes, I think dig up and separate, as they won't do much as a clump.

Maybe stand in bucket of water for day or two, and gradually 'tease' out the roots as best you can.

Go on RHS site to see best way of planting/caring for raspberries. (There are summer fruiting and autumn fruiting varieties, but you may not know which you have; if you do know, they need pruning differently I think.)
