Mystery plant smelling of cannabis

We have a plant in our front garden that smells of cannabis. People visiting us and our neighbours are beginning to comment...mainly in a jokey way but I would like it gone.

We cannot identify what plant the smell is coming from. I don't have phlox planted, which I've read can cause this problem. Had anyone had this experience with a plant?

I might just take up smoking joints otherwise as clearly everyone thinks we are massive stoners already!

I saw the title and came to say phlox. But you say it's not that.

I think snapdragons smell a bit like weed when you rub the stem.
Also, lantana does a bit.

But phlox - OMG!

Smells like cannabis...looks like cannabis....perhaps it is cannabis! I wonder if it is illegal to smoke a weed from your garden.

Can't be cannabis- wouldn't have survived the winter.

Someone is using your garden, they will dig it up when it is ready Wink

I used to live somewhere where this was a problem, but in one of the surrounding gardens. We even had the police knocking on the door about it once. Never did find out what it was. Not very helpful sorry, but if you do find out I'd be interested to know!

put a photo up so we can have a look

Phlox smells of cannabis?! Wish I'd known that before I planted some at the weekend - I was hoping they'd attract bees and butterflies, not stoners.

It may be a hemp plant from the seeds from a bird feeder.
I have seen this happen in some gardens.

It's quite a busy front garden, I've got a massive pampas grass (no, not swingers, I like it) anguligia, random other stuff, periwinkles, choisya, sorry about spellings. Nothing that when you sniff close up smells of cannabis. It's a just a whiff we get, but quite a strong one and like I said, strangers walking past or delivering Parcels have commented.
I might as well plant some real weed.
