I think I accidentally forced a rhubarb plant - what now?

Hi! this is my first post in gardening. I was throwing some peelings into my compost bin and noticed four or five stalks of rhubarb growing out of the compost!. I was trying to grow rhubarb in a container last year, thought it had died and chucked it into the compost and now it seems to have revived. Apparently this is exactly how you force rhubarb - cover it to keep out the light and insulate the cover to keep it warm. How long can I leave it growing in the compost bin? is it OK to eat? Can i plant it in the ground later? Thanks!

I would transfer it to the ground now, water and mulch it well and leave it alone for the rest of the year. Rhubarb really needs a couple of years to establish before you start picking it.
