Realistically, is 3x3 feet ish enough for a small raised veggie patch?

That's about all the space I could give over to one, just not sure how much I could put in the space

I'd like a couple of tomato plants again after last years success - we had enough to eat and make about ten jars of chutney. And maybe something else easy if there's space?

Or would pots be better maybe?

If that is the space you've got, it's the space you've got. Don't try to grow pumpkins :)

Easily that's pretty big. Check out quadrant planting -dh is a fan.

bigbad, FIL is doing pumpkins at his allottment I think, will double check with MIL next time I speak to her (although I wasn't thinking pumpkins)

It's enough to grow some things. tomatoes might be better out of the raised bed, either in grow bags, or I have good success with cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets.

Try herbs ( mint/ chives/ rosemary), survive winter sometimes. Some raspberries up canes, tomatoes up canes, strawberries around the bottom.

For small spaces pick ideally the fruits and veg which coat most to buy

hmmm, I shall re-think my garden plans for where to put things in that case.

There are two shrubby looking things in there that I don't like the look of, I could take them out and use their space for grow bags maybe

cut and come again lettuce is easy and doesn't take much room

hmm, we eat a lot of salad...dd1 did a perpetual lettuce at school a year or so ago & it went on and on and on forever! Peppers go in everything (not literally but I do use loads of them). We eat anything and everything really, none of us is too fussy

FIL is doing onions/cabbages at the allottment, they were bigger than dd2's head last year & I still have some of each frozen.

dp said do mushrooms in the garage...he got a but I might see about if it's do-able.

We have a tiny veg patch. Last year's success was herbs, strawberries, carrots. Also had pak choi and peas which we mucked up but would have been okay. Rhubarb did badly and sunflowers took up loads of space.

Everything we tried was recommended as small child friendly.

This year we'll do sunflowers again but fewer, kale, strawberries, carrots, beans, herbs... And do better with planting only a week's worth at a time.

runner beans are very easy, and at least go upwards, so don't take up too much space
