Should I plant my clematis now or put it in the greenhouse?

As it says in the title. I went to a DIY shop on Thursday and found a whole rack of plants outside for a pound.
Since our garden is like a nuclear testing site I thought I should buy some.
I am unsure whether to put the clematis into a pot and then into position or put it in the greenhouse till spring has sprung.
The label on the plant is spectacularly unhelpful and only shows the flowering time.
We are in Norfolk if that makes a difference.

You can plant it now providing it's been outside til now and doesn't have any new buds on it.

Clematis like growing in the ground best rather than a pot - they like a deep cool root run.
Plant it a couple of inches below the level of the soil in the existing pot, this encourages new shoots.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, we don't have any 'ground' in our garden. I think it was a ground force copy. It's all stone, shingle and slate.
It doesn't have any shoots (which was what caused DH to call it dead) and is twiggy.
I have high hopes for it. There's already a bit of trellis that it can grow up.

I saw a load of reduced clematis the other day but was unsure what to do. I think I will have to make a return visit now!

You can plant on into a bigger pot, cover the current top of the soil lower down in the new pot.

Clematis do have the habit of looking totally dead and twiggy in the winter.

Plant it in a nice big pot and I'm sure you'll have lovely surprise in the summer!
