Gardening novice - flowers for planters in December

Hi I am a total gardening novice but I try hard to learn about planting etc but I do find it complicated so im asking for a very simple answer to my question.

I have two large planters at the front of my house and I have been very late planting flowers in them so at the moment they look dreadful with dead geraniums in them. There are bulbs buried in them somewhere which will flower next year but are there any plants I can buy now that are flowering to put in them so look nice and not unloved as they look now.

Pansies or violas.

Cyclamen, winter flowering pansies, evergreen skimmia, those plants with round orange berries about the size of a marble. The choice for winter-flowering plants is quite limited.

Thank you.i wish I knew more about gardening but I when I read about all the various plants, sowing, germinating etc i get very confused. I do like the front to look nice though.

Don't bother then, just buy the little plants and plant them out.

I love gardening, do lots of it but still don't much like growing things from seed.
