Wood sealant? First garden and I haven't a clue!

We have untreated fences and planters at the moment and want to weather proof them without colouring the wood.

Can anybody recommend a, preferably cost effective, product?

Most likely they are pressure treated - fencing is not usually made from untreated timber.
Did you build the fence yourselves?

Teak oil is lovely to use, but might be time consuming to do a whole fence though.
