Total novice- what would be best to try to grow up a garage wall?

We need something annual, and perhaps something that looks good all year round (is there such a plant?)

There's a decent size of space for planting and we've got new soil for it.

Thanks for any help!

Ceanothus or climbing hydrange would be my choices

A few questions first, desertbaby . . .

Which part of the UK do you live in? And how much sun shines on this wall (am, pm, all day)?

Do you want something free-standing (a shrub), or something that will cling to the wall (a climber)?

Are you looking for just one plant, or maybe two or three?

What about espaliered fruit trees?

A quick-fix for this year would be to buy a pot of young sweetpeas from a garden centre. I bought some at 10-15cm for covering our garage wall.

However, you will need to fix some vine eyes and wires to the wall to support the sweetpeas.
