Can I plant a tree at this time of year?

I know that the planting season for trees is supposed to be November to February when they're dormant but I have a tree I need to plant now.

Will it fail to thrive and just put it's energy into leaves/blossoms or will it have anything left over to sink down some good roots?

Anyone planted trees at this time of year and can advise me please?

A long winter will have forced it into a longer dormant period so it will probably be fine.

I've planted all sorts at non-recommended times and have yet to regret it.

If its bare root / rootballed probably best not, but a potted or containerised one should be fine, as long as its got a properly sized pot and hole to go into and gets plenty of water and well rotted manure. Good luck! X
