cost of garden clearout/returf

I'm hoping that someone can give me an idea of whether £3600 is a good price for having a garden cleared (old compost heap, soil heap etc) and returfed. It's about 25 metres by 5 metres. The price includes pruning all the existing trees and getting rid of some stumps.

Any advice greatly appreciated, I am garden "virgin".

That seems incredibly expensive. How long did they say the job will take and how many men. How tall are the trees and how many ?

Apart from the tree pruning this isn't a skilled job.. Are they taking the rubbish away?
I've just had a plum tree and 2 evergreens pruned for £120 and I live in London where things are considered to be very expensive. It took 2 men less than an hour.

I am in London too. It is a team of 4. When I say re-turf, they will be rotovating, mulching and then laying turf, and also laying an area of bark chips to the rear. They will be removing all the rubbish. I was thinking it would cost around £2000 + vat.

Have you obtained any other quotes? Or has this firm been recommended to you by someone who's actually used them?

If you've just found them by googling, or in Yellow Pages, then a bit more research might be required!

Sounds expensive to me too but it's hard to say without seeing the garden and knowing exactly what's involved.

Not sure about the turf, but I've paid £180 to have 60 foot hedge cut right back and 120 foot garden cleared, 2 days work for 1 guy. Why not price up the turf and then see if it seems reasonable for the labour on top?

also, do you actually WANT to get rid of that lovely soil : or get a couple of raised beds built and use it ....

We had our garden completely dug out, 35 tons of topsoil put down and re-turfed for £1500. Our garden is bigger than yours. Not much bigger but enough.

Even so, yours sounds a lot. I'd get another couple of quotes.

We are in East London. Last year we paid c£2k for partial clearing of our garden (top third of our garden was a mess), laying turf on 2/3 of it and pruning the plants/bushes in the borders. Garden c150ft.

Your quote does sound pricey. I'd get another quote to compare.
