Are there any nice green plants which will be tall and grow in pots on my deck?

I want to put some plants in pots on my deck...but not conifers...something tall to go near the seating there....is there anything that will grow well in the UK?

Fig?

Oh really? Thanks funny...they sound exotic...don't they mind our weather?

They do well in the sheltered south.
What about Camellias and rhodedendrons? They like ericaceous soil so are good in pots and are evergreen. You could extend the flowering period by trailing clematis through them.

I was hoping for things that were just green...there's a lot of colour in the garden and the deck I wanted more green if you see what I mean...but I hate ivy...it's so dreary and looks tired easily. The deck has a roof and is out of the wind so I might try bamboo I think...I like bamboo! Grin

fatsia japonica look lovely in pots and are green all year round.
