Biodegradable carrier bags - can I stick them in my compost heap??

I would but they might not be very quick to decompose. sainsburys do some of their organic produce in compostable plastic and that goes in the compost.

They disintegrate quickly enough in the garage, oddly enough! flakes of plastic everywhere.

I buy biodegradable nappies which come in compostable plastic bags. The first one went in the compost bin shortly after DS was born in October and I think it's still there. I might see some composting action soon with this nice weather though
